Revision #3

This is more of a technical revision based off of the major cuts to the film but the music had to be reworked. Due to the shorter run time we edited the music in two ways: began it post beginning of the song that way the words "Man-eater" during the time we needed the music for. We made it so the music ends at the title screen so its cleaner.

Revision #2

This revision is a reworking of the credits. Originally, we had all of the credits at the end of beginning of our film which is wrong and does not follow normal film conventions at all. This mistake gave the impression was ending instead of only beginning so it was a minor revision we made rather quickly.

Revision #1

The first revision was made to the run time. The run time was at around 40 seconds over the limit so we cut out scenes that did not really match the feel of the movie or did not clarify Svetlana's status of a vampire. For example, Peer review made it overwhelming clear that "Cafe Baci" scene was lost on the viewers as the they could not make the clear connection that Svetlana's avoidance of an Italian restaurant indicated an aversion of garlic which is a typical vampire trope. Also and most vitally we cut out portions of the film that were filmed not by our group and left portions we filmed or used the tripod for. This will allow our film not to be invalidated.

Our Distribution Plan

The model we will follow for our film is similar to "What We Do In The Shadows". This is simply because there are not very many blockbusters that are comedy type movies that incorporate horror into the film. It is even rarer that these movies do well in any type of wide release. "Scary Movie 5" made a decent profit but it was panned critically as well as released at the end of the height of the popularity of spoof movies that make fun of conventions of horror movies as well as popular horror movies of pop culture crazes as well. The "Scary Movie" franchise was in it's fifth iteration in a franchise that had clout or name recognition. Our movie is not releasing in this spoof fad time-period nor is it a spoof and it is not of a recognizable franchise. Therefore, the film is best suited for a very limited theatrical release so a smaller distributor not too dissimilar to the type of distributor "What We Do in the Shadows" used. If the film is cri

Distribution Research #3 - It

Image
This movie is at the top of the ladder, and it was a mega release and mega success which is very different from the other two films. There any real comedic effect present but we used it to show how a movie the size of this one is distributed. The Film grossed $700 million at the box office and was distributed by Warner Bros. which is one of the biggest distributors of films in the business and they were prepared to get this film to the theaters located across the world. This film is now available on DVD since January 9th, 2018. It should be noted this film released September 5th, 2017 which aimed to be one of the films of the summer blockbuster season. Now "It" is available to rent on YouTube, Google Play, Amazon Prime, and Vudu.

Distribution Research #2 - Scary Movie 5

Image
This film follows in the same sort of genre of horror comedy as the film we are going for, but it had a larger release than "What We Do In The Shadows". In fact, it grossed $78 million and didn't have to find its way into american theaters it was already there. It helps that it was only the second movie distributed by Dimension Films which at the time of the release it was a subsidiary of the Weinstein Company, a large distributor. The DVD was released later on DVD and Blu-ray later in August. The movie is now Available to view for rent on Vudu, iTunes, and Amazon Prime.

Distribution Research #1 - What We Do In The Shadows

Image
This picture is a wonderful example of a smaller film being distributed during a seasonal time. Its release date was October 30th, 2014, once day before Halloween. Its distributor was "Mad Man Entertainment", company based in New Zealand. Regional releases of this film were handled by different distributors after the film reached critical acclaim, the most notable includes paramount pictures for limited U.S. releases. The film grossed $6.9 million dollars due to this release style. The distribution of this film for DVD release was handled by Weltkino Filmverleih, a german distribution company. the film is now available to view on YouTube Movies, Hulu, Amazon, Vudu, iTunes, and Google Play.

Art of Title Exercise

Image
This title sequence teaches a lot in the ways of executing a title sequence in a successful fashion. Kathy Zielinski spent over two months making these ghouls come out of the hills of the estate pictured. However, what I gleaned most from this was the use of the credits within the animations. We are going to have change the our use as this is the correct way of incorporating the credits through out the opening, not just with it speeding by at the end. This will likely be our first revision. I noticed their use of the '80s synth of the time which was sort of coincidental since we also used an '80s song that fits the theme.

A Glance at Distribution

The distribution companies of the film making industry have vital roles being the middle man for getting the film from the studio to the eyes of popcorn munchers in theaters. Indeed, Studios employ the use of these distribution companies like Hannover House to distribute the movies however the larger studios have set departments to perform this action to reduce cost or negotiations making the process more efficient. A strong example of this would be a Columbia Pictures or a 21st Century Fox. Some companies like Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures went and purchased distribution companies like Buena Vista to distribute their movies rather than grow their own department.       The Distribution company's job is just that to distributed the finished product to the theaters of the world. This does get rather expensive or just a massive undertaking so the distribution companies may partner with other large distribution companies to mitigate risk for movies that aren't necessari
